About The Majestic Breed

Great Danes are considered gentle giants, that comes from their massive size and their kind personalities.

Bred as a boar hunting dog over 400 years ago, this majestic breed is known for their swiftness, alertness, friendliness, and dependability.

Because of their size, Great Danes need a large area to sleep and lots of exercise, even though they are playful, they will be ready to stop playing because of their low energy level because of their size.

The Great Danes are very smart and train well. They are extremely friendly with friends and family, but like all large dogs they should not be left with young children.

They are known to be sensitive, and find it hard to adjust to new surroundings so it is important to expose them to different environments when they are young. That also means that they will need positive reinforcement. Focus on obedience when they are younger as they are also known to be very stubborn as they get older.

Because of their short hair, grooming is relatively low maintenance, with a weekly brushing being fine, but they do shed, so during shedding season a daily brush is recommended.

Because of their rapid growth they require a good diet. Most owners agree that they should eat a premium dog food with no more than 24% protein and fat levels around 12% to 14%. Following this healthy diet, people say grow them slow, they will reach their full size at around 3 years, although the first months are fast.
